More Boat Slips for Clearwater Harbor Jul 19

Boating enthusiasts in the vicinity of Clearwater may be pleased to know that a second marina development on East Shore Drive, Clearwater Beach, is in the works at City Hall. Proposed by Woods Consulting of Dunedin, Florida, this marina will be on the property addressed at 443 and 463, on the northeast corner of Papaya and East Shore Drive. It will include a total of 50 boat slips, with 38 offered for rent or lease to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Since this property is in the Marina District of Clearwater Beach, under the guidelines of the City’s Beach by Design, this project will likely be quickly approved by the City’s Planning Department.

Unbelievably, even with a dock width of 236 feet and a length of 235 feet, variances will not be required for construction on the 315 foot wide property. Proposed total decking exceeds 7,000 square feet. The project includes 16 parking spaces, one handicap-designated.

The dock is designed to avoid negatively impacting the marine environment, and boat slips will not be constructed over the submerged vegetation. To minimize interference with navigation, the outer tie poles will be marked with reflective tape, at the request of Clearwater Harbormaster, William Morris. Signage and prohibitions are planned to prevent damage to the sea grass areas, including in-water markers requested by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

There will be no fueling facilities or commercial activities that would contribute to a water quality problem. Also proposed, is a portable sewage pump-out unit to service slip occupants.

A spokesman for the Clearwater Planning Department stated that landscaping will comply with Code Florida Grade 1, and will be native to Florida; this includes palms and oaks.

Since the 60’s, Pensacola’s Seville Quarter has been making history as an all encompassing, award winning, saloon-style bar and restaurant. With their seven rooms of fun, seven days a week, Seville is sure to entertain you night and day. Rosie O’Grady’s is the original room that started it all, which features dueling pianos on stage every Wednesday and Saturday. Right across the hall you’ll find Phineas Phogg’s, a two-story dance floor with live music and DJ’s pumping up the volume until so the beat never stops. On the east end of the mansion, the Aviator’s Pub is a gathering place for folks to socialize and network while indulging their favorite beverage. Apple Annie’s is a ballroom with adjacent courtyard with plenty of space to host fabulous parties and events. The End of the Alley bar is an open-air accommodation for the cool sounds of jazz, folk, and reggae music fill the air. Sharpen your pool skills in Fast Eddies billiard hall, adorned with several tables to keep the breaks coming. Tables are $6 an hour. Finally, the Palace Café, next to Apple Annie’s, is you one stop shop for caffeine concoctions. They serve many different types of coffee, cappuccino, espresso, lattes, and more.

Tap, tap, win? Disney buys mobile game-maker Tapulous Jul 02

Go ahead and crank the volume on Stroke 9’s “Tap Tap Domination” while you read this, because it could be a big win for Disney and mobile-gaming fans alike. According to multiple news sources on Thursday, the Walt Disney Co. bought Tapulous, maker of the hugely popular iPhone music game Tap Tap Revenge. Disney will initially focus on making games for Apple’s iPhone, iPad and other mobile platforms, said Steve Wadsworth, the president of Disney Interactive Media Group. Wadsworth was quoted by The Associated Press as calling the purchase “a strategic move, and it highlights the importance we put on mobile.” It also highlights the potential of being a big money-maker, too. Tapulous apps are played by 30 million users on Apple platforms. Games include Tap Tap Revenge, which features different musical acts, from Metallica to Lady Gaga and even a Disney talent familiar with legions of young Radio Disney fans – Justin Bieber. Tapulous also is the creator of the Riddim Ribbon game app, too. According to the AP, Tapulous Inc.’s staff will remain in Palo Alto, Calif., while Tapulous founder and CEO Bart Decrem and CIO Andrew Lacy will take over mobile-business roles at Disney. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Steven Ford, Orlando Sentinel
