Berries, Brew & BBQ Kicks Off Floral City Strawberry Festival

Even the name sounds good! It’s the Berries, Brew & BBQ celebration! This event kicks off the Floral City Strawberry Festival and it’s a humdinger. This Friday, March 2, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. the Berries, Brew & BBQ will be in full swing at Floral City’s downtown square. They’ll be food, plenty of shortcake, cold beverages, and live entertainment. Best part? It’s free! This is one of those really magical evenings with a great small town feel. The downtown merchants stay open for shoppers. Luminaries light the Withlacoochee State Trail (so you can walk back and forth from parking at nearby Ferris Groves and its one-of-a-kind store). Magical. The Floral City Strawberry Festival itself begins the next morning at Floral Park. You’ll find all kinds of berry good stuff from pies to perennial favorites. In addition to strawberry everything, there will be more than 150 craft vendors, live entertainment, a rock climbing wall lots more. They’re big on filling the event with plenty of children’s activities so bring the kids! Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 3 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 4. Entry to the event will cost $3 per person, with free admission for children under 12. For more info including parking tips, call the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce at 352-795-3149 or visit them online. Enjoy!

Hilton Sandestin Beach Spring Specials, New Expansions

Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa is one of those resorts that once you experience it, you won't want to vacation anywhere else. Once you park your car, you won’t have to drive anywhere. You’ve got the beach, two outdoor swimming pools, an indoor heated pool, six restaurants, the award-winning Serenity By The Sea spa, a fitness center, game room, a supervised kids’ club, championship golf and tennis. The Hilton Sandestin also recently underwent a $6.5 million dollar renovation where they added new amenities: Expanded 17,000 sq ft beachfront deck Beachfront hot tub New kiddy pool Two new venues: Barefoot’s Beachside Bar & Grill AND Picnix’s Poolside Market So now, the largest full service beachfront resort on Florida’s Northwest Gulf Coast provides guests even more of what they come to Destin for – more beach views, more beach access and more beach experiences. And those beaches are truly spectacular. The sand is soft like baby powder and they’re literally white as snow. Best of all, they stretch on for miles. Accommodations All rooms at the resort have been enhanced, too from their standard rooms with built in bunk beds for the kids to first floor Lanai and Presidential suites. Our room had the built in bunk beds that provided a separate, more private area for both mom and dad and the kids. To show off all that’s new, the Hilton Sandestin is offering two new packages for spring: March Into Spring and Picture Perfect Fun , both will be valid March 1-31, 2012. For all the details, just click the attached links. This resort would also make a fantastic romantic getaway . The spa is splendid, with separate areas for men and women – with a total of 17 treatment rooms. And you'll find the best restaurant in Destin here, Seagar's Prime Steaks & Seafood . This is a AAA Four-Diamond Rated dining experience with an open kitchen concept, aged meats, fine seafood and five-star service. Try the bone-in filet and save room for cheesecake (flown in twice weekly from New York). So come on! Welcome spring with a visit to the Hilton Sandestin – you will be so happy you did. I wish I were there right now. Sigh. I’ll be writing a Part Two blog this week about the Village of Baytowne Wharf , a fantastic dining, shopping and entertainment venue that’s just a free shuttle or a bike ride away from the Hilton Sandestin.
