Two Manatee Festivals in Central Florida

Each January, you have two chances to celebrate the manatee, in Orange City and in Crystal River. Each of these cities has its own Manatee Festival and each offers wonderful, affordable family fun. Crystal River’s Florida Manatee Festival This two-day festival is Jan. 21 and 22, 2012 in Downtown Crystal River. Entrance is only $3 for adults and kids under 12 are free. Here are a few highlights: Fine arts show with over 50 exhibitors Live entertainment where you can be a part of the show (with their Jimmy Buffett sound-alike contest) Manatee boat and kayak tours Beer and wine garden Children activities galore! Lots of food Orange City Blue Springs Manatee Festival This one happens on Jan 28 and 29, 2012 at Valentine Park, West French Avenue off of Highway 17-92. Admission is $8 for adults and $2 for ages 4 to 10. Children under 3 are free. Event highlights: Non-stop family entertainment Over 100 arts & crafts booths Music and dancing K-9 Dis-Connected Children's area with shows, face painting and more The big attraction is the Open House at Three Sisters Spring on Sat., Jan. 21, only. Simply catch a shuttle bus from the Kings Bay Shopping Plaza anytime from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be six shuttles running so you’ll only have a wait a few minutes. The cool thing about Three Sisters Spring is that it’s otherwise only accessible by boat and it’s only open during this Open House during manatee season.

Crystal Beach Places To See

Crystal beach on the Highway 98 is one of the many beach destinations here. The calmness and less crowd attracts many, as it is bit laid back and undeveloped compared to many others.

The main attraction here is the beach where one can spend most of his time. A visit to this beach would not be disappointing. A day here could be enjoyed indulging in the water activities. One can even consider strolling on the white sand or can just lay down with a book. The warm weather alluring landscapes and the pristine atmosphere would make it hard for anyone to leave the beach to check out other attractions and places to visit nearby. Visiting two shopping centers nearby would not be a bad idea.

The Track Recreation Centre, 1125 Highway 98 east, can be one of the places to checkout not too far with loads of fun for everyone. A miniature golf, bungee jumping, train rides and go cart tracks are few of the many of this package.

If visitors are willing to travel further they can check out Gulfarium in the Fort Walton Beach. It is the Marine show aquarium. A trip here would be an educating and entertaining experience for every age group. People can actually interact with these friendly-marine animals; enjoy the innovative shows along with waterslides, games and pier walk. The time and effort put in is definitely worth it. The Swap can be another one. It is a club with few bars. Events like concerts, live music performances and dancing are organised here. Visitors can dance away the night after spending the day at the quiet beaches, as it is open from 8 pm till four in the morning.

Crystal Beach itself has a beach, few restaurants and few shopping areas along the same highway have many other attractions to offer to make your holiday a memorable one.

Crystal beach is one of the many beaches along the highway 98. It has gradually made a place among nice destinations to check when one is planning its Panhandles vacations. Along with all the attractions and fun, food is good enough with ample dining options.

Crystal Beach has two huge seafood restaurants. It is not only popular among crystal beach visitors but among the other ones visiting other beaches. Both have waterfronts making dining here a lot more fun.

Pompano Joe the neighborhood beach place, as they call it themselves, is the first waterfront restaurant here at Crystal Beach serving since 1995. They claim to offer the freshest seafood mainly with a Caribbean taste, in quite reasonable prices. Its walls windows have been decorated with colorful frames adding attraction to it. Its menu has a lot on it from appetizers, soups, salads, pasta, seafood sandwiches to the Galley Specialties. Each dish would not cost more than 25-30 dollars. They have a long list of beer and wine with a separate menu for kids and some scrumptious deserts. Its location, atmosphere and the food makes it a fun place to dine in. The Crab shack is another huge one here. The red huts, nice view, great parking area and amazing food make it an amazing dining place.

Many other small eateries can be spotted on this beach and nearby.  Like Crystal Beach Coffee Co. It can be a nice place to hangout for an hour or so to have a break from exploring the place. Vacationers are ready to drive to Destin nearby can actually enjoy numerous options. Captain Dave’s, The Whales Tale and Wahoo’s Oyster place are few, to name.

All beaches are on the Gulf Drive although it’s quite hard to determine which one ends and starts where. The dining experience would definitely add more fun to your trip here.
